PhotoShoot Work

Hello and welcome to whom ever is reading this Blog post.

Today I'm going to be talking to you about Photo Shoots and what to expect on them as a makeup artist. Now they are some of the best parts of being a makeup artist and you can have so much fun and creative rain in them. Now but you have to find yourself a good photographer to work with. But don't be afraid to go and ask to work with one, because you never know if they will want to work with you or not. In saying that you are also expected to have some experience within the industry and knowlodge of what goes on in a photoshoot before a professional photographer will work with you.

You need to know how to stand and hold your place as a creative mind in a shoot. Now not every time will your input matter on a photoshoot but it should at least be listened to. New ideas and creative ones at that can come from all sides and angles and should not be ignored by anyone. It will also be somewhat expected of you as a makeup artist to be able to help out as much as possible with the shoot. Such as set dressing, helping the models with anything or the photographer, you can't sit back and say "I'm not doing that, I don't get paid for that!". With that attitude you won't work in the industry for very long. You need to have the attitude of being able to get up and go, and get your hands dirty.

Now also if you are needed for a certain time, you need to be there at least 15 minutes earlier than the call time! prep work is essential on a shoot. If you as a makeup artist and possibly the hairstylist as well, if you hold up the production time, or the photographer because you weren't ready they won't be happy. You need to be very time efficient and work quickly but safetly as well. Photographers usually love certain times of the day to shoot, so also be prepared for very early starts as well, you may have to wake up at 4am a couple of times in your career as a makeup artist. Some of the best times to shoot photos is early morning with the sun rising and late in the evening when the sun is setting.

Also have your products stocked and ready. Don't show up at a set or shoot with no eyelashes! or don't show up with only 1 style of lashes. Have a couple different styles in your back and always pack individuals as well just incase. Also as someone carrying a massive case of equipment, you are also looked on to maybe having items such as sewing kits or double sided tape, or pins. These are unexpected items that people never think of needed, but may need them, so if you have them in your kit you could be a life saver for a client or the photographer. Which will help you get rebooked for next time!
